The Palazzetto Rosso hotel is located in an ancient palace in a historic area in the center of Siena, built entirely of bricks. It was probably already an inn in ancient times, receiving travelers who came for business in Tuscany during the Middle Ages, a region always dedicated to commercial exchanges.
On its facade, the bricks are of different types, arranged to form the typical decorations of civil architecture of the 13th century in Siena, with large arches and characteristic geometric motifs resembling herringbone patterns, similar to the tiling of Piazza del Campo. On the Via dei Rossi frontage, there are also medieval flag holders and torch holders in wrought iron perfectly in style with the historical architecture of central Siena.
History, Design, and Attention to Detail
You enter the hotel through a small arched room, of course, made of bricks, to be greeted at the reception by a young and enthusiastic staff.
Passing through an arch, you will discover the large hall with walls entirely in brick with inclusions of antiquities from various periods, collected by a former owner who was an antiquarian, now an integral part of the context. The curved ceiling, 6 meters high, is frescoed with motifs representing the coats of arms of "ancient Etruscan cities" that were part of Siena's history, preserved and modernized over time.
There, on a floor by 14ORAITALIANA, consisting of large gray tiles, the contemporary design tone is also provided by the furnishings: black or white BISTRO tables (the colors of Siena) signed by Luca Nichetto, a designer associated with CASAMANIA, 3D chairs and armchairs in different vibrant colors and black ZIPPO benches by PEDRALI, the comfortable OSLO armchairs by MUUTO, bright white ICEBEARG bar by designers Claudio Dondoli and Marco Pocci of PEDRALI, KANT bar stools by designer Karim Rashid of CASAMANIA. The large red N7 table, which looks like an origami, serves for breakfast, where the buffet is set up, but also to be admired; it is the work of designer Norayr Khachatryan of CASAMANIA. Lighting by designers Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina, distributed by ARTEMIDE.
Continuing in this majestic hall, you will discover a monumental staircase entirely made of bricks leading to the rooms. The steps are shaped by the passage of thousands of people who have used them... This work will not leave you indifferent... Adjacent to the staircase is a well made of carved stone on a pedestal, surmounted by a wrought iron work. A little further on, climbing three steps framed by two statues representing two wolves and the brothers Romulus and Remus, you will find an elevator...
